El King to recreate 1973 "Aloha from Hawaii" concert at Luau

Elvis is scheduled to shake his hips with some hula girls at the senior center next week.
Elvis impersonator El King says he will re-create the king of rock n' roll's 1973 concert "Aloha From Hawaii" during a performance at the South Brunswick Senior Center June 25. He said seniors should expect to be pulled from the audience and dance for the king while wearing grass skirts and coconuts.
"We'll be performing songs fast and slow," said Mr. King, a full-time Elvis impersonator. "We'll be singing songs from Elvis' movie 'Blue Hawaii' like 'I can't help falling in love' and 'Rockahula baby.' "
Mr. King, who was contracted by the event company Entertainers Plus to appear at the luau, said he plans to "play the piano like Liberace," for guests.
"They love it," said Susan Davis, owner of the Tinton Falls-based Entertainers Plus, about Mr. King's senior audiences. "What they want the most is the interaction, keeping the audience alive and spirited."
Senior center program coordinator Susan Trilli organized the luau, which the Montgomery-based The Tiger's Tale will cater.
With the purchase of the $10 admission, guests will be served a Hawaiian buffet dinner of chicken skewers, roast pork with honey maple glaze, grilled tilapia with pineapple salsa, ham with pineapple glaze, salad and corn on the cob from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Mr. King's performance will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Christine Wildemuth, senior center director, said the luau is one of six cultural shows the senior center will host this year. She said that last year the center featured shows with Italian, Polish and Caribbean themes. Next month the senior center will host a barbecue and travel presentation and a world forum, which will be a discussion based on cultural diversity and understanding.
"We just said, 'well, we haven't done a luau and it's summer, so, let's do a luau.' " Ms. Wildemuth said.
For tickets, called the senior center by June 18 at (732) 329-4000, extension 670.
